Meet Andrew
Andrew J. Sosnowski is an accomplished attorney and legal advisor with over 30 years of experience. A lifelong Illinois resident, he is committed to upholding justice and keeping the community safe.
Born in Chicago and raised in Calumet City, Sosnowski comes from humble beginnings as the child of an immigrant. He worked through college as a laborer at the AMOCO Oil Refinery in Whiting, IN.
Sosnowski began his career as a prosecutor in Kane and McHenry Counties in the 1990s. He tried felony cases and earned a reputation as a tough but fair prosecutor. In 1997, he was appointed Chief of Kane County’s new Family Justice Division, targeting issues like domestic violence and child abuse As State’s Attorney, Sosnowski will draw on his deep expertise in leading prosecutions, directing family justice initiatives, overseeing major organizations, and managing multi-million dollar budgets.
In addition to his prosecutorial work, Sosnowski has extensive experience fighting for justice in private practice. From 2004-2010, he operated his own firm representing clients in a wide range of legal matters, including personal injury, insurance disputes, family law, and criminal defense.
During this time, Sosnowski took temporary prosecutorial appointments in several counties. He was recruited to serve as Chief Prosecutor in Jo Daviess County, where he tried a backlog of complex felony cases. In Ogle County, he served as Chief of Staff, building a 15-member staff and prosecuting crimes.
Through his private practice, Sosnowski gained valuable perspective on the civil and criminal justice systems. He represented plaintiffs who were wrongfully injured or denied insurance benefits. He also defended individuals accused of crimes, ensuring their constitutional rights were protected.
This well-rounded experience showed Sosnowski firsthand how legal representation can empower people and change lives. As State’s Attorney, he will bring this passion for justice to prosecute criminals and vigorously provide top-notch victim services. Andrew knows how to fight for all community members, regardless of which side of a case they are on. His private practice career uniquely qualifies him to serve as a States Attorney.
